Growth Mindset

This is our school yeti!

Our yeti reminds us not to give up.  Instead of saying 'I can't do it', we say 'I can't do it yet!'.

Having a Growth Mindset is about hard work and perseverance.  In order to get better at something, we must put in the effort, learn from our mistakes and never give up.

Mindset Theory

Growth Mindset theory is based on the work of Dr Carol Dweck. Based on extensive research, she states that there are two types of mindset:  'fixed' and 'growth'.

In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like intelligence and talent, are fixed traits.  They do not think they can be developed.  They believe that talent alone creates success.

In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work.  This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.
